Ireland are in third place, three shots behind joint leaders Scotland and France heading into tomorrow’s (Friday) final round of the PGAs of Europe International Team Challenge in Turkey.
The Irish trio of Eamonn Brady (Clontarf), Brendan McGovern (Headfort) and Damien Mooney (Ballyliffin) combined for a two under par 70 on Thursday to reach nine under par at Gloria Golf Club, Belek.
Defending champions Scotland finished day three with a 68 while France fired a brilliant seven under 65 as both teams reached -12. Wales are still in touch on eight-under with England a stroke further adrift.
The ITC pits teams from across the PGAs of Europe’s Member PGAs against each other over 72-holes with the best two individual scores each day from the team of three counting towards the overall team score.
Brady and McGovern produced the scoring rounds for Ireland, compiling a pair of one under 71’s with Mooney signing for a one over 73. At eight under par, Brady remains in the hunt for individual honours and is in fourth place, two shots behind Scotland’s Graham Fox.
Meanwhile, the denouement of the International Shield, the competition for teams representing a PGA with 100 members or fewer, looks set to be as competitive as the main tournament.
Host nation Turkey have led the tournament within a tournament from day one but their advantage over Poland going into the final round is just four strokes.
