The North of Ireland Amateur Championship has secured a new title sponsor ahead of the 2013 event at Royal Portrush. Cathedral Eye Clinic will replace Magners, who called time on their involvement in the Championship at the conclusion of the 2011 event.
Andrew Spence of Cathedral Eye Clinic commented: “On behalf of Cathedral Eye Clinic I am delighted to announce that we have partnered with the GUI Ulster Branch to sponsor the North of Ireland Golf Championship for 2013.
“At Cathedral Eye Clinic, our local consultant surgeons use the very best of technology to provide the safest form of blade-free laser surgery, and also lens replacement surgery for those over the age of 45 who tend not to be suitable for laser or who have cataracts.
“We invest in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the best result – a tactic which many golfers also employ. We feel the burgeoning partnership is the perfect match – the game of golf is one of precision and perfection, a vision which we also share.”
Peter Sinclair Chairman of the Golfing Union of Ireland (Ulster Branch) stated:
“I am delighted to welcome Cathedral Eye as title sponsors of the 2013 North of Ireland Championship. The Ulster Branch looks forward to working with the company throughout the current season and hopes that this will be the start of a long and mutually beneficial partnership to the benefit of both amateur golf in Ulster and for golfers and their friends and family.”
Headfort’s Rory McNamara who beat Michael Sinclair (Knock) in last year’s final will not be able to defend his title this time after being named in the Ireland team to play in  the European Amateur Team Championship at Silkeborg Golf Club from 9–13 July.
However, Irish Amateur Open Champion, Robbie Cannon (Balbriggan) and Irish Close Champion, Cormac Sharvin (Ardglass) are both in the draw for the qualifying rounds which will be played over The Valley and The Dunluce courses on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 July.
